The ever worsening economy is continuing to impact the games industry, not only
in developers or publishers, but also for those who make a living covering the
industry as well. Variety has reported that G4 is reducing the episodes of
"X-Play" and "Attack of the Show." Starting March 2, "X-Play" will be cut to
three episodes per week, and "Attack of the Show" to four. The cuts include an
unspecified number of layoffs as well. Hosts Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb
weren't among them, so whatever cuts occurred are apparently behind the scenes.
Variety reports that a G4 representative claims the move isn't part of a
budget cut, but is instead focusing the spending towards other series. "Savings
resulting from this move will go directly towards producing more original
programming in 2009," she said.
G4TV has already undergone a severe
shift in programing which left many gamers angered the last time. Now it appears
as if G4TV is about to undergo yet another big format change to the network. G4
executives have already mentioned previously that the first programing changes
were because of poor ratings. Now with more cuts underway one has to wonder if
its too late to save G4TV.
